Day 2 of Fair Cape Downhill Challenge II was all about the wind. The weather was forecasting 45km/h SE wind, gusting to 50km/h. With Fair Capes uninterrupted landscape, this made for a very fast tailwind down the course. In the morning the wind was blowing by late afternoon it was pumping! The race course was fast and during the day Anton Pratt recorded 108km/h on his skateboard and Russel Naude recorded 115km/h on his street luge! Everyone was loving the speed and the stoke was high after every run, smiles all round considering a lot of the riders have never been that fast.
Racing began later in the day with the street luge division opting for the GP format. Russel Naude won all his heats to take the street luge category. With only 3 classic lugers they only ran one heat, the finals, which again Russel Naude took the top spot. The junior skateboard category was next, this was the first time that SAGRA had run this category. The juniors were super amped, they were charging it down the course all day long. In the finals Nook Hook of Hout Bay dominated in the finals to win the junior skateboard category. In the skateboard category Douglas Dalua dominated in all his heats, in the finals he used his big push to get out in front and kept his lead all the way to the finish to take the no.1 spot in downhill skateboard.
Thanks to everyone that helped and our sponsors, Zon Zipper, Redbull, First Nature, Butlers Pizza, Boardyard, Mitsubishi for the shuttles and Tygerberg Medics. See you at Hot Heels Africa World Cup 2010!!
